FAQ’s

What insulation is the best?

There are several types of insulation on the market. The most popular options are loose fill blow fiberglass or cellulose, rolled batted fiberglass, and open or closed cell spray foam. The different types of insulation stand out from another in different areas of the house.

The best insulation for the attic is blown fiberglass. Blown in fiberglass insulation can be installed to meet any R-value, provides continuous R-value throughout the whole attic, and holds its depth longer than it’s counterpart, cellulose insulation.

In the walls the best insulation is closed cell spray foam. Spray foam gives a complete air barrier which makes it outshine its competitors. Batt insulation can be sufficient in this area if you’re on a tighter budget.

As far as the crawlspace, the best insulation option is spray foam. Encapsulating your crawlspace with vapor barrier and foam is the only solution I would recommend. Some contractors will put batt insulation in between floor joist to insulate the floor, though this seems like a good alternative, this will only cause problems down the road. Moisture in the crawlspace will cause the insulation to fall and it will eventually need replaced.

What does attic insulation cost?

Attic insulation is typically priced per square foot. Several factors go into estimation to dollar cost per square foot, some of these are: accessibility, desired R-value, depth needed installed, location, and ventilation baffles. It is best to have a professional out to look at your attic and get an accurate estimation.
